Side,walk

The narrative of the land that is known as East Boston does not start after colonization, but rather has a rich pre-colonial history that is crucial to the designing of space away from Western and European canons.  By deeply researching the location of the site, the project aims to reintegrate a historical tradition of relational movement informed by landmasses, natural resources, and celestial bodies.  The project, too, provides a missing amenity for the current population of East Boston: a flexible open plaza.  The site is dominated by a strict grid and heavy residential programming which creates an inhospitable environment for walking.  The project, through its formal organization and programming, is truly a space for the community, fostering lasting informal sidewalk relationships that start to cultivate trust and public faith.
