OTHER LANDSCAPES
By examining and applying conventional landscape surveying techniques, the representation of Alex MacLean’s aerial photographs projects the drawings into something “other” that distances itself from the origin. The drawings inspect the elements in the landscape: physical constructs and sensorial qualities, and how to represent them. The discussions revolve around line weight, type, and density, as well as hatch, color, transparency, gradient, texture, and grain, while simultaneously reflecting on how each component can be reinterpreted as a completely new ground.
