The Link Hall extension proposal aims not only to revitalize the existing Engineering and Computer Science building, but also to provide students with the two necessary work spaces to become successful engineers. The building’s dual nature is inspired by the two main ways engineering students work: though individualistic study, manifested in the North-South contemplative bar with carved out study carols, and through collaborative exploration exemplified in the East-West framed bar with its open floor plan. These two bars not only organize student life, but also the mechanical systems necessary to maintain a comfortable and effective work environment. Additionally, budget, cost, feasibility and construction sequencing were considered throughout the competition.
