JANUS

This object is the culmination of effectual, visual, and material research of a thin plastic sheet.  Plastic sparks an interest in procedure, sensation and imagination, recording, and impression.  Through these points of interest, the object presents itself as an industrial entity that is juxtaposed with manually movable parts.  The object both necessitates a human operator while concealing their identity, creating tension between the user, the impression they make, and the viewer of the motions.  The operator can never see their resultant work, while the spectator can never see the operator and operations.  Each maintains a sense of mystery.  In this way, the object itself becomes the plastic sheet, operating as a veil that obscures, reveals mechanisms, and temporarily records operational movements.
